SELEUKID EMPIRE. Antiochos II Theos. 261-246 BC. AR Drachm (16.5mm, 3.96 g, 10h). Alexandreia in Areia (Artakoana) mint. Diademed head of Antiochos I right / Apollo, testing arrow and placing hand on grounded bow, seated left on omphalos; two monograms to outer left. SC 613 var. (monograms); Ehling, Seleukidische 10–31 var. (V1/R– [unlisted rev. die, unrecorded monograms]); HGC 9, 246d. Toned, a few scratches, struck from heavily worn obverse die as typical. Near VF.

From the MNL Collection, purchased from Frank Kovacs, February 2014 (his ticket included).

The top monogram on this drachm appears to be the same as that found on one of the tetradrachm issues, SC 612.8. Although there are a variety of drachm issues from this mint, all of them were struck from the same obverse die, which is exemplified by the fact that all known examples have the same heavily worn appearance.
