PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter. 305/4-282 BC. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 14.11 g, 1h). Contemporary imitation of Alexandreia mint issue. Diademed head right, wearing aegis around neck / Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; to left, P above monogram. Cf. CPE p. 454, 142A for similar. For prototype: cf. CPE 154; cf. Svoronos 256. Attractive iridescent tone. Good VF.
This issue appears to be stylistically linked to a series of imitative issues of Ptolemy II recently studied by C. Lorber. Specifically, the obverse of this coin is very similar in style to Lorber, Mint, emission 1 tetradrachms (= CPE Ptolemy II mint 23).
