Selections from the Eric P. Newman Collection of World Coins. Mainz-Archbishopric. Johann II von Nassau (1397-1419) Goldgulden 1397-99, Bingen mint, Fr-1615, MS61 NGC. Obv. IOhIS ΛR | ЄP o MAGV, archbishop seated on gothic throne, a crosier in his left hand; arms of Nassau below. Rev. + MOnЄTA : OPIDI : PInGЄnSIS, arms of Mainz within trilobe, trefoils in the angles. A small red stain is present on the obverse and light encrustation is to be found on both sides. The strike is well-centered with a little unevenness, particularly on the archbishop, though luster is present throughout.Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman / B.G.
