Probus (276-282 AD) Antoninian, Lugdunum

Rare and desirable reverse type with Sol holding a bow and olive branch, resting his foot on a captive, borrowed by Probus from Aurelian's Roman mint 11th emmission coinage (see e.g. Aurelian Ric Temp 1823).

Florian-like potrait (typical for the first two early emmissions at Lugdunum).

Virtually as struck with great details and full silvering.

Obverse: IMP C M AVR PROBVS AVG

Radiate, cuirassed bust right.

Reverse: ORIENS AVG / III

Sol walking right, holding olive branch in right hand and bow in left hand, left foot resting on a captive in oriental dress kneeling on the ground to right, head turned left, right hand raised.

Bilon, diameter 20,5 mm, weight 2,95 g.

Rzadki i pożądany typ rewersu z Solem trzymającym łuk i gałązkę oliwną, opierającym stopę na jeńcu, zapożyczony przez Probusa od Aureliana (zob. 11 emisję Aureliana w mennicy rzymskiej).

Portret przypominający jeszcze rysy Floriana, typowy dla dwóch pierwszych wczesnych emisji w Lugdunum (podobizna Probusa nie zdążyła jeszcze trafić do mennicy w Lugdunum).

Okołomenniczy egzemplarz ze świetnymi detalami i pełnym srebrzeniem.

Rewers: Sol stojący w prawo, trzymający gałązkę oliwną i łuk, jego lewa stopa spoczywająca na jeńcu, w otoku legenda ORIENS AVG, w odcinku III
