BAKTRIA, Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Euthydemos I, circa 225-200 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 15.75 g, 12 h), Mint A (near Aï Khanoum), circa 220/15-210/08. Diademed middle-aged portrait of Euthydemos I to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΕΥΘΥΔΗΜΟΥ Herakles seated left on rock, holding in right hand club set on rocks and resting left on rack at his side; below rock, monogram. Bopearachchi 5B. HGC 12, 40. Kritt A12. With a wonderfully pleasing Hellenistic portrait, reminiscent of the portraits of Antiochos III of Syria. Minor porosity, otherwise, extremely fine.
