MACEDON. Philippi. The Triumvirs. Mark Antony, Circa 42 BC. (Bronze, 17.5 mm, 5.18 g, 11 h). A[ntoni]-I[ussu]-C[olonia]-V[ictrix]-P[hilippensis] Head facing. Rev. Q PAQV[IVS RVF] LEG C D Plough. AMNG 12. RPC I 1648. ZfN 1929, 263, no. 3. Rare. Some deposits, otherwise, good very fine.
The identity of the facing head (even its sex) on the obverse remains an enigma. However, the plough on the reverse certainly refers to the foundation of the colony of Philippi by Mark Antony in 42 BC.
