Bower, • IACOBVS • II • DG • MAG • BRI • FRAN • ET • HI • REX, laureate and draped bust right, rev. • TUTAMEN AB • ALTO, an angel, holding a flaming sword and an olive branch, protects the Crown which is placed on a chair of State, plain edge, 43mm, 30.54g (Eimer -; MI 611/18), some nailmarks and with a lightly polished appearance, nevertheless with rich blue toning to otherwise dark grey surfaces, flashy lustre, near extremely fine and extremely rare.
This medal was struck by George Bower soon after the King's accession. The messenger from on high protects the crown with his flaming sword, and is holding an olive branch of peace as emblematic of the future reign of James.
