CONTRA INFANTEM PERDITIONIS•, troops disembark from boats near a fortified harbour; large fleet on the horizon, EXPEDITIO NAUALIS PRO LIBERTATE ANGLIAE MDCLXXXVIII in exergue in three lines, plain edge, 49mm, 47.08g (Eimer 298; MI 639/65; van Loon III, 355; Woolf 3:8; Harding 9 this medal), some contact marks to the reverse field and a bruise to edge at 6 o'clock, otherwise richly cabinet toned and with a most attractive flashy brilliance beneath dark grey surfaces, extremely fine and pleasing, rare.
The reverse of this medal shows James and Father Petrie carrying the young Prince, another illusion to his alleged illegitimacy.
