This medal compliments Mary, as giving brightness and brilliancy to the court during the absence of her husband. From 1690 onwards William III was frequently absent, particularly from Spring to Autumn while on military campaigns. In light of his absence, in May 1690 the Regency Act was passed, this made lawful for Mary to administer the affairs of the Kingdom in both their names.
