Victories of Anne over Louis XIV, AR Medal, 1706, by P. H. Müller, LVDOVICVS MAGNVS ANNA MAIOR •, Anne, as Minerva, subdues Louis XIV armed as a Roman warrior, rev. PERCVTE ME NE DICATVR QVOD A FEMINA INTERFECTVS SIM • IVDIC • C • 9 •, a woman in a besieged tower casts stones down on the enemy, DOMINVS TRADIDIT EVM IN MANVS FOEMINAE • IVDITH • KVI • C on edge, 43mm, 29.98g (Eimer 422; MI ii 289/98; van Loon V, 39), surfaces and edge lightly contact marked, otherwise with a rich cabinet tone in hues of green and blue, the relief areas pleasingly struck-up, near extremely fine and rare.
One object of the medallist is to satirize the French king, for his having been defeated by Anne, who is upon this medal compared to Judith, who destroyed Holofernes. If Louis XIV was 'great', Anne was 'Greater', as her army had everywhere proved victorious over him.
