Gupta Dynasty, Kumaragupta I (Mahendraditya) (415-455 CE), Gold Dinar, "Lion Slayer" type, Obv: the king standing, wearing necklace, armlet, bracelet and other jewellery on his body is seen mid-hunt, wearing sash on his upper torso and janghia below, holding a bow in his left hand with the right releasing the bowstring, the lion is facing the king and seen falling backward probably with an arrow in its mouth, the Brahmi legend "(Ksitipatirajito mahendrah) Kumaragupto (divam jayati)" around the field, Rev: goddess Lakshmi, seen wearing jewelry on her ears, neck and hands, seated in a Lalitasana pose on couchant Lion to right, the goddess is seen showering coins with her right hand and holding a lotus in her left, whose stem is coming from inside the hand resting on her thigh, a tamgha on the top left field, the Brahmi legend "Simhamahendrah" on the right field, 8.05g, 18.45mm, (Altekar, Bayana Hoard # Pl. XXVIII-2-3/TGE, S. Kumar # Class II-Var. C.1), sharply struck in high relief, superb bold strike, strong features, almost complete details visible, almost uncirculated, Exceedingly Rare.

Note: The reverse portrays the Goddess showering coins with her right hand, on the coins of this type the halo above the Goddess is missing. One of the finest specimens with each infinitesimal details of jewels adorned by King and Goddess visible on it and both of them appears as embossed on this coin. This outstanding quality is impossible to encounter these days and missing from various collections.
