TURKEY. Bronze Defeat at Sinope Medal, 1853.
68.2 mm. Bust of Abdul Medjid (1839-61) facing, legend "ABDUL-MEDJID-KHAN EMPEREUR DES OTTOMANS" around; Reverse: Robed female places wreath on altar commemorating Turkish losses at Sinope, legend "EUROPE ILS SONT MORTS POUR TOI" above, and in exergue "SINOPE/ 1853". Reverse by Hart. When the Ottoman fleet was destroyed by the Russians at Sinope, Britain and France joined with the Turks to prevent a massive Russian expansion in the Middle East. Eve. Problem free, with deep chocolate surfaces.
