Pedro II 200 Reis 1871 MS64★ NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM478, LMB-16. First year of issue. An especially attractive rendition of this inaugural issue, laden with abundant die polish and mint flash all contributing to the desirable "star" designation. LMB lists the a "pure nickel" Pattern 100 Reis 1871, but not a 200 Reis issue. It is fair to say this offering was likely done as a presentation piece since the business strikes, even in Gem grades or finer, lack such high-quality die and planchette preparation. Practically Prooflike and certainly deserving of an advanced bid on eye appeal alone.
