The place of origin for this coin has never been definitively located. Recent work has suggested that these interesting pieces were produced in England, shortly after the war was concluded. They were produced as keepsakes, and they first appear in periodicals as illustrations in the 1780s. Although, it was long assumed that these coins were likely to have been at the New York mint, or in Philadelphia. Aspects of the design appeared on the Continental notes with the final design with elements from deigns created by Benjamin Franklin and David Rittenhouse of Philadelphia.

Estimate: 10000 - 12000 GBP
