FRANCE. Diner de la Marmite, 1890.
100x124mm silvered copper galvano, uniface, by Daniel-Dupuis. Forrer II, page 665 (illus.) A maid works a cauldron, from which a babe attempts to escape; above, three other baby boys float upwards in the steam. The little ones are naked, but in hats suggesting their professions (train conductor? and Baker?) or with tools (architect and painter). La Marmite was a famous restaurant, for which Roty also did a medal. An example in Muse d'Orsay, cast bronze, is 85x119mm and lacks the words across the top. One of real treasures in this collection, which will probably not come up for sale again for decades. AS MADE.
