FRANCE. Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts; Membership Medal, 1890.
39x58mm bronze, by Charpentier. Conjoined busts of the painters Meissonier (with long beard) and Puvis de Chavanne. The reverse is very often seen with the name of a member ("societaire"), in this case, Ernest Carriere. Carriere, the important symbolist painter, was a founder of the society, making this example more special. Another medal in this collection, by Bottee, is also named to Carriere. A bit of hairlining and spotting, doubtless unpublished work of the artist. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
