FRANCE. Automobile, (1906).
65x45mm bronze, by Coudray. Maier 228. Obverse: Early automobile and driver pass along a country road, watched by two females in flowing dress, one with her hand on a detailed motor. Reverse: Laurel, cartouche. The women and the outdoor scenery are soft and flowing, but the modern contraptions are shown in precise detail. While the piece is lovely, many would wish that the car grabbed top billing over the rest of the composition, particularly as this is one of the earlier automotive images in any medium. MINT STATE.
