ITALY. Milan International Exposition and Sempione Tunnel, 1906.
51x74mm silver, by Egidio Boninsegna (engraved by Angelo Cappuccio). Obverse: Five slender, flimsily draped females encircling the world. Reverse: (the tunnel side) Seated female greeted by Mercury and female personification of the city. One of the more glorious pieces done for a world's fair, in a field crowded with artistic gems. Unfortunately, the outstanding work of Italian medalists does not get its due attention, due to the scarcity of examples in the marketplace, and the absence of big-name medalists (like Roty, Brenner, Scharff...). Minor spotting, otherwise NEARLY MINT STATE.
