MEXICO. France. Mexican Participation, Paris Universal Exposition, 1900.
53x90mm silver, by J. F. Contreras (Struck at Paris Mint). Not in Grove. Obverse: Complex swirl of elements from the fairgrounds, with central figures of standing female and a small boy. Reverse: Sun over fair, date, etc. and (named) cartouche. Contreras had previously done a medal for the 1889 Paris world's fair. (Cf. Dix Noonan Webb, July 1, 2008 #2587, 63mm silver, "Very Rare", realized 100 Pounds.) Rare medal, doubtless moreso in silver, and one of the finest medals of the country. MINT STATE.

Named to Philippe Crozier, who (ca.1911) as ambassador to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, teamed with Cartwright, his British counterpart, in an attempt to weaken Vienna's ties with Germany. Had they succeeded, WW1 might not have happened–or happened later.
