Specimen printed by W&S. One of a remarkable two we are offering on this elusive design type. Statue vignette of Van Riebeeck at left with Britannia standing with flag and shield at right. A wonderfully ornate frame in purple inks is used with geometric lathe work used throughout. Rayed under-printing with "5" counter at center and central guilloche in black with "FIVE POUNDS," within. Back printed in red-orange with crowned woman at center and bank buildings flanking. Seen with W&S specimen seal and overprints along with five punch cancels.
