Ismail Shah was actually the immediate precursor to the Bahmanis and elected ruler by the local nobles who were in revolt against the Delhi sultanate. He was soon replaced by Bahman Shah, the founder of the Bahmanid dynasty. No billon coins were issued by the Bahmani rulers. The date of the Malwa half tanka is likely to be 883 because of the presence of a swastika mintmark, not noted for coins of years 893 or 903. The quarter tanka of Mahmud Shah is most probably a posthumous issue.
