USA / Iran, a Persian silver ashtray inset with a silver 5-krans of the Qājār Shah, Moẓaffar od-Dīn (1852-1896-1907), the coin dated AH 1302; the bowl of the ashtray engraved "AMERICAN EMBASSY – TEHRAN", 100mm., marked on base "VIGE TABRIZ", in excellent condition and an unusual association item
To make the ashtray even more international, the coin was minted in St. Petersburg. The American Embassy was designed by the architect Ides van der Gracht and built between 1948 and 1951 with Loy W. Henderson as the ambassador. It was the same building to be made famous by the American hostage crisis of 1979.
