MEXICO. "Porfirio Diaz, Hero of Peace" Silver Medal, 1909.
72 mm; 152.2 gms. cf.Grove-P-136b. State capitol building of Chihuahua (where U.S. President Taft met with Mexico's President Diaz in 1909), legend " AL HEROE DE LA PAZ", above building and, "1909/EL ESTADO DE CHIHUAHUA", below; Reverse: Bust of Diaz left within laurel wreath, "STERLING SILVER", on edge. Signed, "TIFFANY & CO", on obverse below building. Grove describes and illustrates an error version struck in silver, but only bronze pieces in this corrected type. The error version is inscribed, "LA HEROE", instead of, "AL HEROE". Deep pearl gray patina, a few small edge bumps/nicks. EXTREMELY FINE.
