MIXED LOTS. Lot of (4) European Medals.
4 pieces in lot. Includes an early cast copy of a Girolamo Savonarola Medal (ca. 1498) by Niccolo Spinelli (Fiorentino), hooded bust on obverse, God's hand holding a sword over Florence, 51 mm brass. A uniface portrait medal of Maria Poliziano, typically found as the reverse of a medal (Pollard-316) for her brother Angelo, a tutor of the Medici family, 52.3 mm cast bronze somewhat crudely produced. A 32 mm silver Jeton with the bust of Louis XVIII on the obverse and a sundial surrounded by the rather remarkable (considering what happened to Louis) inscription, "LEX EST QUODCUMQUE NOTAMUS" (The law is whatever we say it is), by the Parisian Company of Notaries. Finally a 28 mm gilt silver (?) medal of Napoleon I facing left, reverse with a radiant crowned eagle, looped. Retail value of about $450. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. FINE-EXTREMELY FINE.
