Judaea, Herodian Kingdom. Herod IV Philip, 4 B.C.E.-34 C.E AE 20 mm. 5.07g. Caesarea Philippi. laureate head of Tiberius right / EΠI ΦIΛI-ΠΠOY [TETPA]PXOY, tetrastyle façade of the Augusteum of Paneas; between columns, date (L-Λ). TJC 102; Hendin 1225; RPC 4944. Scarce and desirable type. VF+
The area of Caesarea Philippi, the city in which this coin was minted, seems to have been known as Ba'al Hermon and Ba'al Gad in Scripture. It is also the area in which Peter made his 'great confession', and where 'the transfiguration' occurred.

Very fine.
