EGYPT: Abbas II Hilmi Bey, Khedive, 1892-1914, AR medal, 1897, Khedive's Sudan Medal, Arabic monogram of Khedive Abbas Hilmi II, with the Arabic date AH1314 in the exergue / oval shield bearing three stars and crescents, before an array of crossed rifles, cannons and standards, with pin back marked Spink & Sons London, with new ribbon, miniature medal, EF, R. The Khedive's Sudan Medal was a campaign medal awarded by the Khedivate of Egypt for service during the Mahdist War in Sudan. Established 12 February 1897, by Khedive Abbas Hilmi Pasha, this medal was initially to commemorate the reconquest of the Dongola province in 1896. It was subsequently authorised for later campaigns and action up until 1908. The ribbon of the medal is yellow with a broad center stripe of blue, representing the Nile River.
