Coole, Arthur B., Encyclopedia of Chinese Coins (Volumes 1-7), Mission, 1967, Compendium of every illustration of knife, spade & related non-round coins and funeral monies in the available literature up to circa 1970 along with discussions of Seal script, but no numismatic information. Good one-stop source for the researcher, but most collectors will find a simple type/variety catalog more useful. Volume 6 on Ming knives is more comprehensive than any other reference; Volume 3 is useful for spotting odd variants of square-foot late spades and Volume 5 covers interesting "debatable" money items. This ambitious project died with Coole himself and Volume 7 covering pre-T'ang round coinages was completed later, covering about 1900 pieces. This is a complete set of volumes, including the important Bibliography Volume 1, and out-of-print Volume 4, set of 7 books, ex Ernest A. Ikenberry Collection.
