GREAT MONGOLS: Möngke, 1251-1260, AR dirham (1.62g), NM, AH[6]53, A-E1978, Z-60139, thunderbolt (seree) tamgha / coarse Arabic legend including the date in words, tentatively assigned to the mint of Qara Qorum, then the Mongol capital, minor weakness, VF, RRR. A poor quality specimen of this dirham was found in Mongolia, and is also listed on Zeno (#27561). Another hoard found in Mongolia contained Yuan dynasty Da Chao silver cash coins and the two dirhams and the one half dirham in this auction, plus another low quality specimen of the half dirham. The obverse bears an undeciphered Uighur short text alongside the tamgha.
