Charles I (1625-49), Obsidional Coinage, Pontefract besieged Shilling, 1648, on ocatgonal shaped flan, in the name of Charles II after the death of his father, Latin inscription and date in three lines, crown above, legend and outer beaded circle surrounding, outer legend reads CAROLVS II D G MAG B F ET H REX, inner legend reads HANC DEVS DEDIT 1648 in three lines. Rev, castle gateway with small flag at top P and C either side of flag, OBS vertical upwards to left, cannon to right, legend and outer beaded circle surrounding, reads POST MORTEM PATRIS PRO FILIO, 3.88g (S.3151; N.2649 Brooker 1235). Pierced and plugged, otherwise a bold fine, rare.
