Militaria: Boer War Medals attributed to Major A.L. ''GAT'' Howard D.S.O. - Canadian Mounted Forces - American born, he became one of Canada's heroes at the Batoche Battle and a legendary champion of the famous Gatling Gun. Medals attributed are The Queen's South Africa 1899, 5 Clasps (Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Belfast, Cape Colony & Orange Free State), ''Lieut. A.L.HOWARD R. CANDn Dgns'', The Distinguished Service Order (He was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 'London Gazette, 27 September 1901') & Victoria North West Canada 1885 with 1 Clasp (Saskatchewan) ''CAPT. A.L. HOWARD''. Should be considered of the upmost rarities as only 20 D.S.O.'s were issued to Canadians for the boer War. Important to note also that the North West medal is a re-issued example as the original medal was issued unnamed and it remains unclear if this is the original D.S.O. as the Queen's South Africa Medal had previously been sold as a single item, that is without the D.S.O and North West Medal. That being said, this remains an extremely Rare and important Canadian historical lot that also includes are several various historical documentations relating to and confirming presence and the actions in the Batoche Battle which led to his hero stature. Pictures included as well. See Pictures.
