1967 1¢ in Tin PCGS About uncirculated-50. This should be considered as a unique pattern struck in tin with obvious specimen characteristics. It has a full thick rim and very reflective fields. This example is designated OMS, believed to mean Original Mint Strike, denoting that PCGS doesn't consider it to be a simple error coin. These two factors combined imply that PCGS has treated this coin as a pattern but didn't have a Charlton number to reference when they certified it. There is no reason for tin to have been on hand at the mint, and if the coin were related to the back door jobs of the era, it would be more common on the marketplace and would have been preserved in better condition. There are some notable trials and patterns in tin from this era such as DC-13 (uniface tin 1964 dollar) as well as DC-31a and DC31b which are both reverse trials for the new 50¢ coat of arms in tin. This coin is absolutely unique, and is absolutely necessary to anyone building a pattern collection or a 1967 oddities collection. We feel our opening bid is very conservative considering other 1967 patterns in nickel which they are relatively common sell for several thousands of dollars consistently. The following are comparisons to other similar coins: -1967 $20 struck in nickel, PCGS PR65DCAM, $10,200 USD at US Auction in 2022, more than one known. A 1967 10¢ DC-33 struck in nickel, PCGS SP66, $6,000 USD at US Auction in 2019, more than one known. A 1967 25¢ DC-34 struck in nickel, PCGS SP64, $8,400 at GBA, in 2022, not close to unique, the most common of the patterns listed here. All coins listed above have sold strong and have multiple examples known. This coin was also the front page of a 2016 issue of Canadian Coin News.
