Roman Empire, Probus, Antoninian 4th mint

Attribution of this coin to the 4th unspecified oriental mint instead of Antiochia (as in RIC V.II) is based on the article by S. Estiot, 'L'Empereur et l'usurpateur: un 4e atelier oriental sous Probus'; Studies in ancient coinage in honor of Anndrew Burnett, Spink, London, 2015.

Note: On this coin the cursive digamma (symbol of the 6th officina) looks very 'oriental' as opposed my coin no. 705 where the cursive digamma look almost like a latin 'S'.

W powyższym artykule odnotowano zaledwie 8 egzemplarzy tego typu. Bardzo efektowny portret w niezwykle dobrym stylu jak na tę mennicę (portrety Probusa na monetach z czwartej mennicy wschodniej są z reguły pokraczne i zupełnie nierealistyczne).
