AITOLIA, Aitolian League. Circa 250-225 BC. Stater (Silver, 26 mm, 10.66 g, 1 h), struck under the magistrate Phi..... Head of Apollo to right, wearing oak wreath; below neck, ΦΙ. Rev. ΑΙΤΩΛΩΝ Aitolos, nude but for his petasos, hanging down his back from its neck strap, his scabbarded sword held under his left arm and his chlamys draped over his right leg, standing left, holding his spear in his right hand, his left covered by his cloak, and with his right foot propped on a boulder; in the field to left, Δ. BCD Akarnania 444 (same obverse die). BMC 10. De Laix 72, 12. Tsangari - (D24/R- this reverse unrecorded). Clear, sharp, attractive and one of the finest known examples of this series. Extremely fine.
