ATTICA. Athens. Circa 510-500 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.50 g, 8 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing an Attic helmet, with a crest mounted on a holder ornamented with a zig-zag pattern, a raised visor and a spiral ornament on the bowl behind her ear, a disc earring and with the hair over her forehead shown in waves of curls. Rev. ΑΘΕ Tall, slim owl standing right on long legs, head facing; in the upper field to left, olive sprig with three leaves and a berry; all within incuse square. Possibly an unpublished variant with only three olive leaves, but cf. Seltman Group L 331 (A215/P276) and Svoronos Pl. 6, 8. Boldly struck on a broad and heavy flan, a remarkably fine example, rare thus. Obverse struck slightly off-center and with some minor metal faults, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
