CORINTHIA. Corinth. Circa 400-375 BC. Stater (Silver, 28 mm, 8.44 g, 1 h). Ϙ Pegasus flying left with straight wings. Rev. Head of Aphrodite to left, wearing Corinthian helmet with a neck guard; no symbol or letter in the field. BCD Corinth -. Cf. BMC 124-125 (but helmeted head much larger). Calciati 218. Ravel 338 (505?). Very rare. A most unusual variety, with a markedly small and delicate helmeted head of Aphrodite, unaccompanied by either a symbol or a letter. Well-centered and with a lovely reverse. Struck from a somewhat worn obverse die, otherwise, extremely fine.
From the Pegasos Collection, acquired prior to 2005.
