PHLIASIA. Phlious. Circa 375-350 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 12 mm, 1.09 g, 6 h). Bull's head and neck to right, head turned to face the viewer. Rev. Wheel of four spokes with pellet in the axle; within the lower quarter, Φ; within the remaining three, bunch of grapes; all within shallow circular incuse. Mycenae Hoard (IGCH 171), Arch. Eph. 1896, pl. 8, 39. BCD 115 (same dies). Weber 3887 (described as an obol). Extremely rare. Well-struck and clear. Rough surfaces, especially the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.


As explained in the erudite note in the BCD Peloponnesos catalogue, this coin formed part of a very short-lived prototype issue of Phliasian trihemiobols, which were almost immediately replaced by others with butting bulls on their obverses.
