ARKADIA, Arkadian League. Mantinea. Circa 460-450 BC. Hemidrachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.02 g, 9 h). Zeus Lykaios seated to left, holding scepter in his left hand; to left, eagle flying to left. Rev. A-R-K-A Head of Kallisto to left, hair bound with tainia and wearing necklace; all within incuse square. BCD Peloponnesos (Mantinea) 1457 (same obverse die). BMFA 1252 (same dies). Nanteuil 956 = Williams, Confederate, Period III, 237e (O159/R148, this coin). Wonderful old collection toning, perfect centering and superb strike, and of beautiful late Archaic style. Extremely fine.
