BYZANTINE SEALS, Imperial. Philippicus (Bardanes), 711-713. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 35 mm, 37.87 g, 12 h). The Virgin, robed, veiled and nimbate, standing facing, holding the infant Christ on her left arm; to left and right, plain crosses; all within a plain border. Rev. d N FILEPICЧS MЧL-TЧS AN Crowned bust of Philippicus facing, wearing loros and holding globus cruciger in his right hand and eagle-tipped scepter in his left. Zacos 30 (but from a different bulloterion). Extremely rare and undoubtedly the best known example. Some scrapes and marks on the reverse, as well as minor doubling, otherwise, extremely fine / very fine.
