Seal or Bulla (Lead, 31 mm, 18.80 g, 12 h), Romanos I, with Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus and Stephanos, Constantinople, circa 931-944. IHSЧS XRISTЧS Nimbate bust of Christ Pantokrator facing, raising his right hand in benediction and holding Book of Gospels in his left. Rev. + ROMAn´CONSTANT' CE ST B RM Facing half-length bust of Romanus, wearing crown with cross, divitision, and loros; flanked by diminutive facing busts of Constantine VII on the left and Stephanos on the right, . DOC -. Zacos 68d. Gray patina. This seal bears the only depiction Romanus I's son Stephan's. Weakly struck in places, and with some marks and deposits, otherwise, very fine.
From a European collection and that of R. E. Hecht, Triton XI, 8 January 2008, 1143 (but there misidentified as being of Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus, with Romanus I and Christopher).
