THRACE. Ainos. Circa 461/0-456/5. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 16.08 g, 11 h), similar to groups X-XI and XIII. Head of Hermes wearing Petasos over a laurel wreath to right. Rev. ΑΙΝΙ Goat standing to right, with long beard hanging straight down; below right, ivy leaf within crescent. For the obverse die, cf. May, Ainos A.22, A.23 and A. 30 (groups X, XI and XIII); for the reverse, cf. P.39-P.44 (group XIII, but goat's beard on a slant). For the same reverse die, see Gorny & Mosch 164, 2008, 86 (goat's beard vertical). With a head of Hermes in an elegantly severe style, lightly toned, well-struck and well-centered. Extremely fine.
