BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, ND (1574-76)-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Alonso Rincon (R). Philip II. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, EF Details.
KM-4.2; Cal-518. Weight: 13.52 gms. An interesting Potosi cob with deep toning. The obverse was double struck with some die rotation, somewhat muddling the mintmark and assayer initial and giving the crown a curious tipped angle above the shield. The right side of the obverse is unobstructed and displays the denomination and king's name in sharp detail. The reverse is well-centered and nicely struck. The lions and castles are highly detailed and accented by the dark toning on the devices, save for one flatly-struck castle. Some tooling is noted but is not extensive enough to take away from this coin's many charms. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
