BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, ND (1589-91)-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Baltasar Ramos Leceta (RL). Philip II. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details.
KM-9; Cal-528; Sellschopp-250 (plate coin). Weight: 13.05 gms. Despite this cob's dark charcoal toning and somewhat rough surfaces owing to the noted damage, it retains distinctly visible mintmark, assayer, and denomination on the obverse. Interestingly, the assayer's monogram appears to be struck over a prior marking, perhaps a die flaw or even the initial of a preceding assayer. The reverse octolobe and cross are mostly intact and the upper right lion is charmingly represented. This well-pedigreed coin offers intriguing uncertainty well worth further research.
