BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1617-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Juan Sanchez Mejia (M). Philip III. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details.
KM-9; Cal-773. Weight: 13.68 gms. A RARE assayer. Despite the noted environmental damage, rare cob presents plenty of detail to admire. The peripheries of the obverse Habsburg shield remain clear, and the mintmark and assayer's initial to the left are distinct and unmistakable. On the reverse, all four digits of the date are partially visible and the castle on the upper left quadrant of the cross is particularly fine and well-struck. An interesting and rather complete example of this rare transitional dated cob. Not to be overlooked due to the grade. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click here.
