BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, ND (1649-51)-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Juan Rodriguez de Rodas (O). Philip IV. PCGS VF-35; Countermark: EF Details.
KM-17B; Cal-Type-279. Weight: 12.49 gms. This attractive 4 Reales displays plenty of detail on its broad planchet. The obverse shows a sharp mintmark, denomination, and assayer's mark, as well as the monarch's ordinal. The reverse central devices have been counterstamped with the crowned "L" mark, intended to reduce the coin's value to 3 3/4 Reales. The stamp is bold and complete, evidently strongly struck as it created an area of flatness on the opposing side. A highly appealing Cob presenting an unusually well-executed counterstamp.
