BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1652-AP OE. Potosi Mint, Assayer Antonia de Ergueta (E). Philip IV. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, EF Details.
KM-A18; Cal-1110; Mastalir-1-A.ca. Weight: 12.92 gms. Variety with backwards "4". This interesting transitional piece shows an "E" on the eighth obverse field, engraved over the usual "4" and thus muddled. The other fields display the monarch's initial, a denomination, and two clear assayer's initials. Below the waves, the last three digits of the date are pleasingly readable. The reverse offers a clear mintmark, two-digit date, and the aforementioned backwards denomination "4". The central crowned shield with the symbols of Castile and Leon is elegant and well-struck, with satisfying segments of the outer legend appearing below. Corrosion around the rims accounts for the designation, but the central planchet is clean and wholesome, a seldom-seen dry-land example of this usually sea-salvaged type.
