BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1658-P. Potosi Mint, Assayer Antonia de Ergueta (E). Philip IV. PCGS EF-40.
KM-18; Cal-1125. Weight: 13.39 gms. A beautiful 4 Reales piece, well-centered on a round planchet. The obverse shows two mintmarks, parts of each assayer's initial, a clear denomination, and a slightly muddled date. The reverse shows additional denomination, mintmark, assayer's initial, and three-digit dates with impressive clarity. The central castles and lions are complete and well-detailed. The only notable drawbacks are some flatness around the peripheries and minor doubling, both of which are typical and unproblematic. This is an uncommonly attractive specimen, displaying beautiful cabinet toning and wholesome surfaces. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
