BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1679-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Pedro de Villar (V). Charles II. PCGS VF-35.
KM-25; Cal-524. Weight: 12.34 gms. This 4 Reales cob displays two mintmarks, the assayer's initial, and a clear date on the obverse, along with the final digit of the date and most of the monarch's name on the reverse. With evident circulation wear, minor doubling, and a somewhat rough flan, this coin must have quite a story to tell, yet it still offers a surprising amount of detail on its surfaces. The pewter-gray toning serves to give the piece a charmingly rustic look. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
