BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1682-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Pedro de Villar (V). Charles II. PCGS EF-40.
KM-25; Cal-527. Weight: 13.07 gms. A splendid 4 Reales piece, overflowing with good looks and exceptional detail. The obverse central devices feature well-struck pillars flanked by a bold date, denomination mark, both mintmarks, and half of the assayer's initial. The long date on the outer legend is presented fully and with a seldom-seen sharpness of strike. The reverse shows another mintmark and short date, both of which are well-presented and clear. The central castles and lions are charmingly detailed and attractive. The surfaces exhibit an enticing old collection tone that only enhances the overall appeal of the coin. This is a cob of uncommon beauty, sure to generate well-deserved attention from collectors. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click here.
