BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1697-P. Potosi Mint, Sebastian de Chavarria (CH). Charles II. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details.
KM-25; Cal-545. Weight: 13.37 gms. One-year assayer. Sebastian de Chavarria served as the interim assayer at the Potosi mint for only a few months while the appointed replacement was en route from Spain. As such, coins bearing his unique monogram are quite RARE. This example exhibits black corrosive patina, as indicated by the designation, but retains satisfying details. The obverse includes two mintmarks, the denomination, and identifiable date and assayer's monogram. The reverse is not as well-preserved but still displays an additional mintmark. A nice example from this challenging assayer. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
