BOLIVIA. Cob 8 Reales, 1727-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Diego de Ybarbouru (Y). Luis I. PCGS AU-50.
KM-35; Cal-50; Paoletti-368. Weight: 27.40 gms. A beautiful and quite SCARCE 8 Reales piece struck in the name of Luis I. The well-centered obverse displays the denomination, mintmark, assayer's initial, and date with excellent legibility. The reverse offers another bold denomination mark along with the first two letters of the deceased monarch's name. This piece is fabulously well-preserved, showing crisp details that could only be the product of very light handling and centuries of careful storage. The coin exhibits a lovely warm toning with deep gray high points and lustrous reddish orange hues in the protected areas. A marvelous example from the most elusive ruler in the series. Certain to attract competitive bidding owing to its great scarcity and undeniable beauty.
